National Coalition on

 Auditory Processing Disorders, Inc.

Our Mission:

The mission of the National Coalition on Auditory Processing Disorders, Inc. is to assist families and individuals affected by auditory processing disorders through education, support, and public awareness as well as promoting auditory access of information for those affected by auditory processing disorders.

***An important message from our NCAPD board president:

Dear friends of the NCAPD,

You may be surprised to read this.  You may have asked, “What happened to the NCAPD?”

Actually, the NCAPD was never really gone, just very quiet.  If you had not already heard, the heart and soul behind the NCAPD, Debbie Wood, one of the co-founders, passed away in a tragic auto accident about 2 years ago.  The shock of her untimely death sent the NCAPD into a state of quietness.  The website remained active and people continued to come to the NCAPD website learning (often for the first time) about auditory processing disorders.  People still found professionals through the professional listing on the website, and information continued to be shared via the e-publications on the site, links from the site, and via contacts with professionals found through the site.

Last summer, a group of professionals and parents interested in making the NCAPD an active association again reorganized the organization.  Through their diligent efforts, a new board of directors and executive board were formed.  The NCAPD website was revamped and the new site is now active.  And now we are looking for your support again!

The plans for reorganization include the new website, a new quarterly newsletter, and a new chat room where parents and professionals can discuss issues and concerns regarding auditory processing disorders.  On the new website will be additional links to update those that have already been useful to so many people.  News items and information, such as an FAQ page is in the planning.  The professional resource listing will be updated and will continue to be available on the website.  And who knows what else the future will hold?  But, we need you to support your NCAPD again.

We hope you will renew your membership in the NCAPD. You can find the membership form by clicking the membership link on the left side of this page.  The form has a place for professionals to enter information so they can be included in the professional resource listing.  And, as prices continue to go up, membership dues in the NCAPD remain low.

On behalf of the board of directors and executive committee and those members who have already renewed their membership in the NCAPD, I want to thank you for continuing to support the organization.  We are not-for-profit, so all proceeds are used to pay for things such as the webpage, the chat room, mailings, etc.  So, while you have this handy, fill out your membership form and send it with your dues to the NCAPD Membership Chair.  We look forward to your continued support and to see you at chats and hear from you when there are concerns or questions you have regarding auditory processing issues.

With warmest regards,

dr.j
